Gros Morne National Park
Gros Morne National park is located in the Canadian province of Newfoundland and Labrador on the great northern Peninsula. In Atlantic Canada, it is considered as the second largest national park. The name of the park has been taken from Newfoundland’s second highest mountain which is located within the park. The French meaning of the name is “large mountain standing alone” while the literal meaning is “great sombre”. Gros Morne National park because of its beauty, exceptional scenery and geographical important is selected as the World Heritage Site by UNESCO.
The park offers great wildlife to the visitors. Most common wildlife includes moose, foxes, black bears, river otters, squirrels, and beavers. Beautiful and unique bird species are also found in the park. The rocks of this park signify an illustration of the continental drift and contribute great understanding and knowledge of ancient mountains belts and their geological evolution. Out of the four commercial airports in Newfoundland, the smallest and the closest is Deer Lake. It is just 20 miles away from the park. Precipitation is very common in Gros Morne, in fact, it happens every two days on average. Summer also brings fog and rain which creates an out of the world atmosphere for summit seekers. And in winter, you can easily ski and enjoy the cold weather.
