We’ve shown you many beers that are only available in Newfoundland, but what if you’re more of a spirits person? Not to worry. You can still enjoy a drink made from ingredients only found in Newfoundland, using Crush Birch Beer as your mix. Canada calls the Caesar its own, but we think it’s about time we had our own Newfoundland cocktail we can all be proud of. We’ve got quite the reputation for enjoying a drink or two, after all.
Presenting the birch bum! It’s the only cocktail that Newfoundland and Labrador can call its own (we think).
At the heart of this drink is Crush Birch Beer, one of the 6 Crush sodas you can only buy on the rock. Good luck making this delicious drink without visiting Newfoundland and Labrador!
- 1.5oz rum
- Crush Birch Beer
Put some ice in a standard highball glass, lowball glass, solo cup, dog dish, or any other type beverage holding device you can find.
Add 1.5oz of rum or spiced rum. For this to be made only with Newfoundland ingredients, we suggest Screech or George Street Spiced. But, in keeping with the hard-working attitudes of Newfoundlanders, feel free to use whichever rum you have lying around to make it work. That’s the beauty of the Birch Bum.
Top off your tasty Newfoundland cocktail to taste with Birch Beer and stir. If you’re feeling extra fancy you can even garnish with a Purity Jam Jam or Kiss.
This delicious, uniquely-coloured drink will have everybody impressed and asking “what is that?” You can boastfully tell them “I have a birch bum!”
