Quidi Vidi (most commonly pronounced “kiddy vidi”) is a neighborhood in St. John’s, Newfoundland with a rich and vibrant history. A visit to Newfoundland wouldn’t be complete without paying a visit!
The area gets its name both from Quidi Vidi lake (where the Royal St. John’s Regatta is held each year) and the Quidi Vidi Harbour. As a fishing village historically, it has kept much of the look and feel to this day, with many fishermen and boaters active.
You’ll find beautiful scenery, hiking trails, and a number of places to visit such as the Quidi Vidi Brewery.

Quidi Vidi Brewery
Founded in 1996, this independent brewery is Newfoundland’s largest microbrewery, pumping out 8 different brews regularly, along with various others from time to time. One of their best known is Iceberg Beer, found in a unique blue bottle and made from real iceberg water. It even made our list of 7 Beers You Can Only Get in Newfoundland! You can drop by their tap room for a taste, or if you have a little more time, join one of their tours or events.
Mallard Cottage
Mallard Cottage is an 18th Century Irish-Newfoundland cottage, recognized as one of the oldest wooden buildings in North America.
In 2011, the property was purchased by Chef Todd Perrin and his team. They restored the building with the help of the Heritage Foundation of Newfoundland & Labrador. In its new life, Mallard Cottage now operates as a restaurant and venue which showcases Newfoundland’s various foods.
